Rajasthan Royals Secure Dominant Victory

In their IPL 2026 opener, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) achieved a convincing victory against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), winning by 8 wickets with 47 balls remaining at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium in Guwahati. This impressive performance allowed RR to climb the points table significantly, surpassing both Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI). With this win, RR now sits at the top of the table with two points and a remarkable Net Run Rate of 4.171, while CSK has dropped to the sixth position with a Net Run Rate of -4.171.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Bowlers Propel RR to Victory

Winning the toss, Rajasthan Royals chose to bowl first against CSK. The Men in Yellow faced a disastrous start, losing four wickets for just 41 runs during the powerplay. Sanju Samson, making his debut for CSK after transferring from RR, managed only 6 runs against his former team. CSK struggled throughout their innings, consistently losing wickets as RR's bowlers maintained tight control over the scoring.

The only highlight for CSK was a resilient 10th wicket partnership between Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj, who added 33 runs before the team was bowled out for a mere 127 runs. Overton was the top scorer with 41 runs, while Jofra Archer, Nandre Burger, and Ravindra Jadeja each took two wickets.

In response, Rajasthan Royals launched their chase with enthusiasm. The opening pair of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal put together a formidable 75-run partnership, scoring 74 runs in the powerplay alone. Sooryavanshi continued his explosive form from IPL 2025, scoring 51 runs off just 17 balls, marking the joint third-fastest fifty in IPL history. Jaiswal contributed a steady 38 runs, leading RR to chase down the target in just 12.1 overs, losing only two wickets in the process.
