Rajasthan Royals Secure Crucial Win
On May 19, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) positioned themselves favorably to potentially join Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) playoffs. This came after their 13th victory of the season against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The Royals are among five teams vying for the final playoff spot, competing against Punjab Kings (PBKS), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The playoff race is set to culminate on the last day of the league on Sunday, May 24, when the Royals face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Mumbai, followed by the match between DC and KKR at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
IPL Playoff Scenarios Following RR's Win Against LSG
RR - The Royals have their playoff destiny in their own hands. A win against MI will guarantee their advancement to the next round. However, if they lose, they can still qualify if LSG defeats PBKS and their Net Run Rate (NRR) surpasses that of CSK, KKR, and DC. PBKS - The chances for PBKS to qualify have diminished. They must win against LSG in Lucknow and rely on MI to defeat RR while ensuring their NRR stays above KKR if they win both matches. CSK - The Super Kings' hopes are slim. They need to secure a win against GT in Ahmedabad and hope for MI to beat KKR and RR, while LSG must defeat PBKS to keep their NRR above that of RR and DC if they win against KKR. KKR - Kolkata's team is also reliant on other outcomes. They must win both their matches against MI and DC, while hoping RR loses to MI and LSG beats PBKS. Their NRR must exceed that of CSK if they win against GT and RR. DC - The Capitals require several favorable results. To qualify, they need to win against KKR and hope MI defeats RR and LSG beats PBKS. If these conditions are met, they must ensure their NRR is higher than CSK if they beat GT and RR. However, the margin needed to surpass the Royals may be challenging unless MI wins decisively against them.
