Inspiring the Next Generation Through Sports

Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], August 8: Rajasthan's Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore emphasized the significance of athletes like Arundhati Choudhary and Yashvir Singh, who earned gold and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games 2026, in motivating the youth of the state.

He pointed out the crucial role of sports in conjunction with education, encouraging young individuals to enhance both their physical and mental strengths.

Arundhati, a native of Kota, made history by winning the gold medal in the women's 70kg boxing category at the Commonwealth Games 2026, decisively defeating England's world bronze medallist Chantelle Reid with a unanimous 5-0 decision.

India also made its mark in athletics at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Neeraj Chopra securing a silver medal and newcomer Yashvir Singh taking home bronze in the men's javelin throw, achieving a remarkable 1-2 finish for the country.

Rathore stated, “Our athletes returning from the Commonwealth Games, particularly Arundhati and Yashvir from Rajasthan, have brought home medals—gold in boxing and bronze in javelin. Their achievements will inspire our youth. Life presents challenges, but we must embrace them and strive to improve ourselves. Strengthening both body and mind is essential, and sports hold equal importance to education, just like our mathematics or science teachers.”

He urged families, communities, and elders to collectively support the younger generation in their physical and mental development.

“Every household shares the responsibility of guiding the youth, including family members and neighbors. It’s vital to foster an encouraging environment. The current atmosphere in our country is one of growth and strength on the global stage. The future of India rests on the shoulders of the next generation, so it’s crucial to enhance their physical, mental, and emotional well-being,” he added.

Rathore also highlighted the collaboration between state and central governments in nurturing sporting talent, noting that the Centre is providing support and facilities to national-level athletes through the Khelo India initiative.

“Both the state and central governments are working together to create an environment conducive to preparing athletes to reach their potential. The responsibility for national-level athletes ultimately lies with the central government, which, through the Khelo India Youth Scheme, offers various facilities to our players,” he concluded.
