Rahul Dravid's Potential Role with England

Rahul Dravid may soon make history as the first Indian to coach the England Test cricket team, as he has reportedly been shortlisted for the position. Following a disappointing series against New Zealand, Brendon McCullum, who took over the role in 2022, has stepped down but will remain involved with England's white-ball squads. The search for a new Test coach is underway, and Dravid's name has emerged as a strong candidate, according to reports from a leading newspaper. Previously, he served as the head coach for Team India.

Overview of Rahul Dravid's Coaching Journey

Rahul Dravid's Coaching Career

Dravid began his coaching journey with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL back in 2014. After two years, he transitioned to the Delhi Capitals, where he remained until 2017. In 2015, he joined the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) coaching setup, leading the India A and U19 teams. Under his guidance, the U19 team reached the finals of the 2016 World Cup, ultimately losing to the West Indies. However, in 2018, the team, led by Prithvi Shaw, clinched the title against Australia.

In 2019, Dravid took on the role of chairman at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), serving until 2021. He was then appointed as the head coach of the Indian national team in November 2021. Unfortunately, his tenure saw India exit the 2022 T20 World Cup in the semi-finals after a significant defeat to England. Nevertheless, the team reached the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup, where they fell short against Australia. The BCCI subsequently extended Dravid's contract through the 2024 T20 World Cup, where India finally ended their ICC title drought by defeating South Africa in the final, marking a memorable farewell for Dravid. He returned to the Rajasthan Royals as head coach before the IPL but parted ways with the franchise after just one season.
