In a thrilling encounter, Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored an impressive 102 runs off just 51 deliveries, while debutant pacer Gurnoor Brar showcased his talent as India bowled out Afghanistan for 194 in a rain-affected first ODI on Saturday.

Although persistent rain delayed the match's commencement, the newly installed subair drainage system ensured minimal disruption once the weather cleared. The match was shortened to 25 overs per side, with India opting to field first.

Gurbaz, known for his T20 prowess, entered the game with a focused approach, crediting his mindset to advice from rival coach Gautam Gambhir following a recent Test match in Mullanpur. Notably, Gurbaz played a crucial role in KKR's IPL victory in 2024.

He shared, 'After the Test, I approached Gautam Gambhir and expressed my desire to enhance my shot selection. His guidance was instrumental in my performance against India today. Scoring a century against India on their home turf is no small feat.'

Despite early movement in the air, Gurbaz aggressively attacked from the start, hitting Arshdeep for a boundary before launching a six down the ground.

Standing tall at 6 feet 5 inches, Brar made an impressive debut, taking 3 wickets for 27 runs in 4.5 overs. He consistently bowled over 145 km/h, showcasing his skill and precision.

Brar's initial deliveries swung away, leading to the dismissal of opener Ibrahim Zadran, who misplayed a shot and was caught at mid-off, marking a successful start to his international career.

Afghanistan found themselves struggling at 16 for two when Arshdeep trapped Sediqullah Atal in front, followed by Rahmat Shah's dismissal, caught by debutant Harsh Dubey.

Gurbaz narrowly escaped a leg before wicket decision at 14, a stroke of luck that allowed him to continue his remarkable innings, which featured eight fours and eight sixes.
