BWF World Championships 2026: Indian Players and Seedings

New Delhi, August 4: PV Sindhu, the champion of the Japan Open, is set to compete as the ninth seed, while the duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who clinched gold at the 2022 Asian Games, will enter the tournament as the fifth seeds. The BWF World Championships will be hosted at the Indira Gandhi Stadium from August 17 to 23, 2026.

India will have two representatives in each of the five categories, ensuring at least one seeded player in four of those categories.

In addition to Sindhu and the Satwik-Chirag pair, former bronze medalist Lakshya Sen is seeded 14th in men's singles, while the mixed doubles team of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto holds the 15th seed.

The athletes qualified for this prestigious event based on their world rankings as of April 28, 2026, while the seedings were determined according to the rankings on July 28, 2026.

Shi Yuqi from China, the reigning men's singles world champion, and An Se Young from South Korea, a standout in women's singles, are the top seeds in their respective categories.

Akane Yamaguchi, the women's singles world champion from Japan, is seeded second, followed by Wang Zhi Yi and Chen Yufei from China in third and fourth places, respectively.

The draw for the championships is scheduled for Wednesday, and the final seedings may be adjusted if any seeded players withdraw prior to the event.

In men's doubles, South Korea's Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae are anticipated to lead the seeding, while China's Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning are expected to top the women's doubles chart.

In mixed doubles, Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping from China are seeded number one.
