New Delhi [India], August 3: A remarkable performance from captain Anuj Rawat and Dev Lakra propelled Purani Dilli 6 to their inaugural win in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026, defeating West Delhi Lions at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday.
The West Delhi Lions set a challenging target of 180 runs, thanks to a stellar innings from Ankit Kumar, who scored an impressive 86 runs off just 45 balls, featuring eight fours and five sixes.
The Lions started strong, with openers Ankit Kumar and Krish Yadav forming a formidable 90-run partnership for the first wicket during the powerplay. Krish contributed a solid 43 runs from 31 balls, including seven fours and a six, before his wicket shifted the momentum back to Purani Dilli 6.
Despite losing wickets at regular intervals after the opening stand, Ankit anchored the innings with an aggressive approach, finding boundaries consistently. However, the absence of significant partnerships in the latter stages limited the Lions to a total of 180 runs. Pankaj Jaswal stood out among the Purani Dilli 6 bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 30 runs in his four overs, while the rest of the bowling lineup provided crucial breakthroughs.
In pursuit of 181 runs, Purani Dilli 6 faced an early setback as Rohan Rana was dismissed on the very first ball. Nevertheless, Samarth Seth and Dev Lakra quickly stabilized the innings, forming a 94-run partnership for the second wicket and shifting the momentum in favor of Purani Dilli 6.
Lakra was the standout performer, scoring a dazzling 64 runs off just 33 balls, which included four boundaries and six sixes. Seth supported him well with a steady 30 runs off 29 balls, ensuring the innings remained on track after the initial loss.
After Lakra's departure, captain Anuj Rawat took charge of the chase, finishing unbeaten on 49 runs from 26 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes. Lalit Yadav added a quick 30 runs off 17 balls, and together they led Purani Dilli 6 to a comfortable seven-wicket victory with over two overs to spare.
