Punjab Kings Chase Down 220 Runs Against Sunrisers Hyderabad
In a thrilling encounter at Mullanpur, Punjab Kings (PBKS) showcased their batting prowess by successfully chasing down a target of 220 runs set by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the IPL 2026 match on Saturday. Key contributions came from Prabhsimran Singh, Priyansh Arya, and captain Shreyas Iyer, all of whom scored half-centuries.
After being asked to bat first, SRH posted a formidable total of 219/4, thanks to a remarkable partnership of 120 runs between Abhishek Sharma, who scored 74 runs off 28 balls, and Travis Head, who added 38 runs off 23 balls. In response, PBKS reached their target in just 18.5 overs, finishing at 223/4 with six wickets remaining.
The match saw Arya's explosive innings of 57 runs off 20 balls, while Prabhsimran contributed 51 runs off 25 balls. Iyer remained unbeaten at 69 runs off 33 balls, leading his team to victory.
Currently, CSK holds the second position in the league standings with seven points, while SRH sits sixth, having won only one of their four matches. This victory marks PBKS's record-extending tenth successful chase of 200-plus runs in IPL history.
During the chase, PBKS adopted an aggressive approach, with Arya hitting two fours and a six in the first over, accumulating 18 runs. Prabhsimran also capitalized on the bowling attack, hitting two sixes in the fourth over, helping PBKS reach 50 runs in just 3.3 overs.
The duo continued their onslaught, with Arya reaching his fifty in a mere 16 balls, marking the second-fastest fifty for PBKS. However, Shivang Kumar ended their 99-run partnership by dismissing Arya, who scored 57 runs.
Prabhsimran followed soon after, falling for 51 runs, but Iyer's relentless batting ensured PBKS crossed the 150-run mark in 12 overs. He formed a crucial partnership with Nehal Wadhera, who scored 14 runs before being dismissed.
Iyer's innings included five fours and five sixes, and he finished the match alongside Shashank Singh, who contributed to the final score.
For SRH, Shivang Kumar was the standout bowler, taking three wickets for 33 runs. SRH's innings was characterized by aggressive batting, particularly from Abhishek Sharma, who scored a rapid fifty and helped set a solid foundation for their innings.
Despite a strong start, SRH lost momentum towards the end, finishing their innings at 219/6. Arshdeep Singh and Shashank Singh were among the wicket-takers for PBKS, with Shashank taking two wickets for just 20 runs.
In a show of solidarity, PBKS players wore black armbands to honor the victims of a tragic boat accident in Vrindavan, expressing their condolences to the affected families.
