Punjab Kings Finalizes Team for IPL 2026

The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have successfully completed their 25-member squad for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by acquiring four significant players during the mini-auction. According to a press release, the team added two capped and two uncapped players to their roster. Australian fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis emerged as the most expensive acquisition for the team.

To kick off their bidding, the Kings secured Australian all-rounder Cooper Connolly for ₹3 crore. Connolly, a promising talent, is expected to provide flexibility in the middle order and also serves as a reliable option for slow left-arm spin bowling.

Captain's Insight on New Signings

Discussing the rationale behind Connolly's inclusion, captain Shreyas Iyer, who has faced him in Australia, remarked, "Honestly, he wasn't initially on our radar, but as we deliberated and narrowed down our options, we realized he was the perfect fit for this position." He further added, "His temperament is excellent, and he has the ability to finish matches, which is crucial in the IPL. However, we didn't expect to acquire him for ₹3 crore; we anticipated his price to be much higher."

High Bids and Strategic Acquisitions

Shortly after, the team made its highest bid of the auction by acquiring Ben Dwarshuis for ₹4.40 crore. The left-arm fast bowler and lower-order hitter will strengthen the bowling attack and provide lethal power-hitting options in the death overs. Praveen Dubey was also brought back to the team at his base price of ₹1 lakh, offering crucial backup to the current spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal and Harpreet Brar.

Strengthening the Squad with Young Talent

To further bolster the domestic lineup, promising young talent Vishal Nishad has joined the PBKS team, signing for his base price of ₹30 lakh. The Kings entered the auction with a budget of ₹11.5 crore, of which they spent ₹8 crore to acquire two foreign and two Indian players.
