Punjab Cricket Team Announces New Coaching Lineup

New Delhi, August 8: In preparation for the 2026-27 domestic cricket season, Punjab has made significant changes to its coaching staff, appointing former all-rounder Amit Uniyal as the new head coach, succeeding Sandeep Sharma.

Joining Uniyal are TP Singh as the batting coach, Harmeet Singh as the bowling coach, and Manish Sharma as the fielding coach, taking over from Uday Kaul, Gagandeep Singh, and Sandeep Sanwal, respectively, according to reports from a sports media outlet.

Uniyal, who previously played as a left-arm seam-bowling all-rounder for Punjab, has a record of 29 first-class matches with 91 wickets at an average of 29.94. He also participated in 46 List A games and played two of his four T20 matches for the Rajasthan Royals during IPL 2009.

Since 2017, Uniyal has held various coaching and selection positions with Chandigarh, serving as the assistant coach in the 2020-21 season and as chairman of selectors last season.

This marks Uniyal's appointment as Punjab's fourth head coach in four seasons, following the brief tenures of Wasim Jaffer and Sandeep Sharma after Aavishkar Salvi's exit post the 2023-24 season.

In an interview, Uniyal expressed, “With the current focus on T20 cricket, especially in regions like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Mumbai, we need to harness our potential and talent to play cohesively.”

He emphasized the team's goal to improve in red-ball cricket, stating, “To achieve this, we require bowlers capable of taking 20 wickets, and that will be our focus moving forward.”
