Pranavi Urs Aims for Olympic Glory After Historic Gold at Asian Games
A New Chapter for Pranavi Urs
Pranavi Urs has ignited her ambition for further achievements after securing India's inaugural gold medal in women's golf at the Asian Games. The 23-year-old athlete is now setting her sights on winning an Olympic medal or a Major title. "There will be many winners following me, but I am the one who established this record, which means everything to me. It's gradually sinking in, though it hasn't fully registered yet. I'm still receiving numerous messages, calls, and interviews, which is quite overwhelming but exciting as the first to achieve this," she expressed.
Looking ahead, Pranavi mentioned, "With the Asian Games behind me, my focus shifts to domestic and international tours, including the Ladies European Tour (LET). My goal now is to accomplish something significant."
The qualification window for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games commenced on June 8 and will close on June 5, 2028, with the final roster of 60 players determined by the OGR standings at that time.
Pranavi attributes her success not only to hard work but also to the power of manifestation. Her experience at the Hangzhou Asian Games three years prior, coupled with her collaboration with a psychologist, has equipped her to handle pressure effectively during her gold medal performance.
"I've been collaborating with my psychologist for several years. Ultimately, the goal is to remain composed when feeling anxious and to adhere to my game plan, focusing on what I can control rather than the outcome," Pranavi shared.
Next, she will participate in the Women’s Indian Open starting October 22 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram, with three additional LET events scheduled for this year.
Pranavi is also excited about the prospect of meeting her idol, Rory McIlroy, when the former world No. 1 visits Delhi for the DP World India Championship. "I've reached out to my contacts to see if they can facilitate a meeting with him. While I look forward to showing him my gold medal, I know I will be quite nervous about the encounter," she added.
