India's Stellar Performance in Para Badminton
Toledo, Spain - On March 29, India showcased an outstanding performance at the Spanish Para Badminton International 2026, with Pramod Bhagat standing out as a key player.
The Paralympic champion secured one gold and two silver medals, leading India's impressive display on the global stage, as reported in an official release.
Bhagat's remarkable journey included a gold medal in the Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5 category, where he teamed up with Manisha Ramdass. The duo exhibited remarkable synergy and determination, overcoming fellow Indians Nitesh Kumar and Thulasimathi Murugesan in straight sets. They comfortably won the first set 21-15 and narrowly clinched the second set 24-22, finishing the match in just 30 minutes.
In the Men's Singles SL3 final, Bhagat fought hard but ultimately earned a silver medal after losing to compatriot Nitesh Kumar, with a score of 10-21, 17-21.
He also secured another silver in the Men's Doubles SL3-SU5 event alongside Sukant Kadam. The pair faced a tough challenge against Naveen Sivakumar and Surya Kant Yadav. After dropping the first set 16-21, Bhagat and Kadam rallied to win the second set 21-12, but fell short in the final set, losing 15-21.
Expressing his joy, Pramod Bhagat stated, "I’m thrilled to return with a gold and two silvers from Toledo. Each match was a significant challenge, especially against my fellow Indian teammates. The mixed doubles were particularly memorable—Manisha and I demonstrated great teamwork and composure during critical moments. This performance boosts my confidence, and I’m eager to continue improving for future tournaments."
India's overall performance in Toledo was highlighted by numerous podium finishes across various categories. Nitesh Kumar claimed gold in Men's Singles SL3, while Manasi Joshi and Thulasimathi Murugesan took gold in Women's Doubles SL3-SU5. Additionally, Thulasimathi secured gold in Women's Singles SU5, with Manisha Ramdass earning silver in the same category. Several other Indian players also contributed to the medal tally, showcasing the strength and depth of India's para badminton team.
