Exciting Matches at the National Boxing Championships

New Delhi, January 6: At the Elite Men and Women National Boxing Championships held at Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida, World Championship bronze medallist Pooja Rani and Indian boxer Jadumani Singh secured straightforward victories. Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain and seasoned boxer Amit Panghal faced tougher challenges to progress in the tournament.


This event marks the inaugural occasion where both men's and women's National Championships are being conducted concurrently at a single venue, featuring over 600 boxers competing across 10 weight categories for each gender.


Pooja Rani (75-80kg) from Haryana showcased her skills by defeating Anju from Chandigarh with a decisive 5-0 score. Jadumani Singh (50-55kg) demonstrated his dominance against R Parthiban from Tamil Nadu, leading to a referee stoppage in the second round.


Conversely, Lovlina had to battle hard against Assam's Saweety, ultimately winning by a narrow 3-2 split decision. In the men's category, Amit Panghal (50-55kg), a former Commonwealth Games gold medallist representing SSCB, narrowly defeated Priyanshu from Haryana with a 3-2 split decision.
