Shawkat Ali, the commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), visited Nayeem's residence on Saturday, announcing that disciplinary measures would follow the investigation's conclusions. CMP Deputy Commissioner Amirul Islam stated that an inquiry into the incident has commenced. He remarked, “It seems that the officers involved did not adhere to the correct protocols during the operation. We will ensure that Nayeem receives justice, and those responsible will face consequences,” as reported by The Daily Sun.


Details of the Incident

The incident occurred late Friday night when Nayeem returned to Chattogram from Dhaka. Although he did not participate in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match in Savar, he traveled back with the Prime Bank Cricket Club. Nayeem reported that the police stopped the CNG autorickshaw he was in near Lalkhan Bazar and acted aggressively without providing any explanation. He alleged that he was grabbed by the throat and forced into another autorickshaw before being taken to the Khulshi Police Station.


Witnesses informed the officers that Nayeem was an international cricketer from Bangladesh, but their attempts to intervene were unsuccessful. After being released early Saturday morning, the 25-year-old returned home. Following the public revelation of the alleged assault, several Bangladeshi cricketers, including Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim, expressed their outrage.


The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) condemned the incident and demanded appropriate action. BCB president Tamim Iqbal also expressed his support for Nayeem, assuring that the board would stand by its players and take all necessary measures.
