Prime Minister Modi's Call to Action for Young Athletes

On December 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with young participants of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav through a virtual platform, emphasizing the significance of discovering and nurturing young talent across India.

He remarked, “The Sansad Khel Mahotsav has evolved into a movement embraced by the people... Youth from diverse backgrounds, from urban areas to rural communities, are participating, showcasing its vast reach. As the MP for Kashi, I have been deeply involved in this sports initiative within my constituency,” he stated.

Modi highlighted that India is set to host numerous significant sporting events in the near future, encouraging the youth to take part.

“In 2030, India will host the Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, presenting a remarkable opportunity for young athletes like you. Furthermore, we are aiming to host the Olympics in 2036. The children who are currently around 10 or 12 years old will represent India at the 2036 Olympics,” he added.

He urged Members of Parliament to seek out and cultivate talent within their regions that can elevate India's reputation on both national and international platforms.

“We must identify, nurture, and elevate these talents to the national stage now. The MP Sports Festival can significantly contribute to this. Therefore, I urge all Members of Parliament: this is a vital responsibility. Discover talents in your constituencies who can bring glory to India, even at the Olympics. Provide them with all necessary support and guidance,” PM Modi emphasized.

The Sansad Khel Mahotsav took place from December 23 to December 25. More than just a series of competitions, it aims to instill values of discipline, teamwork, and leadership among the youth.

PM Modi expressed his joy at witnessing youth achieving new milestones in various sports this year.

“It brings me joy to see the youth setting new benchmarks. This year, this extensive event has served as a robust platform for young athletes, including many differently-abled individuals who have had the chance to excel. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all athletes and the youth of our nation,” he remarked.

He noted that an environment has been established in India where even children from the most disadvantaged backgrounds can reach great heights at a young age.

“Today, opportunities in sports are boundless. An ecosystem has been developed where even a child from the poorest families can achieve remarkable success at a young age,” he stated.

PM Modi underscored that every athlete competes not only for personal glory but also for the honor of the nation.

“I want to convey to every athlete in the country: you are not just playing for your own success. You are representing the country and the honor of our tricolor. I also urge all parents to encourage their children to engage in sports, as it is crucial for both physical health and mental well-being,” he concluded.
