Celebrating Victory with the Women's Team

On November 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the Indian women's cricket team, who triumphed in the ICC Women's World Cup, to his residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. During the meeting, he commended the players for their impressive turnaround in the tournament, especially after facing three consecutive losses and criticism on social media.

The team presented PM Modi with a signed jersey featuring 'Namo 1'. Mithun Manhas, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), was also in attendance.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur reminisced about their previous meeting with the Prime Minister in 2017, when they had narrowly lost to England in the finals at Lord's. This time, they were proud to meet him with the trophy and expressed a desire for more frequent visits.

Vice Captain Smriti Mandhana, who finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer with 434 runs, praised PM Modi for his motivational influence, noting that girls are excelling in various fields today, largely due to his support.

Deepti Sharma, awarded 'Player of the Tournament' for her outstanding performance with 215 runs and 22 wickets, shared her anticipation of meeting PM Modi again. She recalled his encouragement to work hard to achieve their dreams.

PM Modi acknowledged Deepti's Instagram post featuring 'Jai Shri Ram' and her tattoo of Lord Hanuman, which she said empowers her.

Harmanpreet inquired about PM Modi's ability to stay present in the moment, to which he replied that it has become a habitual part of his life.

The Prime Minister also reflected on Harleen Deol's remarkable catch during a T20I against England in 2021, which he had previously shared on social media.

He discussed the final match's memorable catch by Amanjot Kaur, who dismissed South Africa's captain Laura Wolvaardt. Amanjot humorously noted that this was one fumble she enjoys recalling.

Kranti Gaud, a young pacer with nine wickets in eight matches, mentioned her brother's admiration for PM Modi, who promptly invited them to meet.

PM Modi encouraged the team to promote the 'Fit India' initiative, particularly among girls, addressing the rising obesity issue and emphasizing the importance of fitness. He urged them to inspire young minds in their schools.
