Pincky Balhara, an Indian Kurash athlete, has now earned her second medal at the Asian Games. She faced a tough semifinal match in the women's 78 kg category against South Korea's Mo Sumin on Monday in Aichi-Nagoya, where she ultimately lost.
Historic Achievement for India
Having previously won a silver medal in the 2018 Asian Games, Pincky has now contributed to India's history by securing the country's third medal in Kurash at the Asian Games. She lost to Sumin, the gold medalist from the 2026 Asian Championships, with a score of 0-5.
Proud Moments Amidst Challenges
Despite her injury, Suresh Balhara shared her pride, stating, "Our daughter achieved third place. I am proud that she went abroad and represented India with dignity." Throughout the match, Pincky faced challenges, receiving an early warning but managed to score a 'chala' (half point/throw). Sumin then converted this into a 'yonbosh' (full point), leading to another warning for Pincky, who ultimately had to settle for bronze.

Pincky's achievement marked India's third medal in Kurash at the Asian Games, confirmed after she triumphed over South Korea's Lim Garam with a score of 3-0 in the quarterfinals. On Day 9 of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, India celebrated a total of eight medals, including four silver and four bronze across various sports such as athletics, shooting, and kurash. Additionally, three Indian boxers advanced to the semifinals, ensuring more medals for the country.
