PCB Issues Warning to Former Cricketers Over Unsanctioned Tournaments

Lahore, August 5: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has issued a stern warning to former players regarding their involvement in unauthorized overseas tournaments. This announcement comes as the board outlines disciplinary actions for those who have participated in the ongoing 20th Asian Legends League in Zambia without the necessary approvals.
In a formal announcement, the PCB expressed its serious concern over the involvement of certain former players in this tournament, which the International Cricket Council (ICC) has deemed unsanctioned according to its regulations on event sanctioning and player release.
The PCB highlighted that the tournament lacks sanctioning from the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU), thus making participation a breach of ICC regulations.
“The ICC categorizes this league as an unsanctioned event under its regulations, and it has not received approval from the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU),” the PCB stated in its press release.
The PCB further mentioned that the ICC has emphasized that all international players must secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their home boards before engaging in overseas cricket events. Member boards are also required to take disciplinary measures against players who partake in unsanctioned competitions, with non-compliance potentially leading to repercussions for the respective board.
Any individual found participating in such unauthorized events without the necessary PCB approvals will face stringent disciplinary measures.
As part of the penalties, the PCB will enforce a two-year ban on issuing any NOCs for participation in approved overseas cricket leagues or events.
Moreover, those involved will be deemed ineligible for any cricket-related roles, including coaching, consultancy, or mentoring positions with the PCB and the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for a duration of two years.
The PCB reaffirmed its commitment to adhering to the ICC’s regulatory framework that governs international cricket.
“The PCB is dedicated to upholding ICC Regulations and ensuring the integrity and governance of the sport. The Board emphasizes that all current and former cricketers wishing to participate in overseas events requiring PCB clearance must obtain the necessary approvals and NOCs beforehand,” it stated.
The PCB will continue collaborating with the ICC and other member boards to ensure compliance with the international regulatory framework governing cricket.
