Parul Chaudhary Shines with Bronze in Women's 5000m at Asian Games 2026
Parul Chaudhary's Remarkable Performance
In Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 28, Indian runner Parul Chaudhary secured her second bronze medal within three days at the Asian Games 2026. She completed the women's 5000m race in 15:14.61, as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Parul displayed incredible determination, finishing just 1.46 seconds behind Japan's Nozomi Tanaka, who took home the silver medal with a time of 15:11.65. The gold medal was claimed by Bahrain's Winfred Yavi, who finished in 15:10.18.
This bronze medal in the 5000m followed her earlier achievement of a bronze in the women's 3000m steeplechase, where she set a new national record with a time of 9:08.67.
Parul's journey at the Asian Games began on September 26 with the women's 1500m final, where she finished fourth with a time of 4:09.46. She then earned a bronze in the 3000m steeplechase on September 27 before adding another bronze in the 5000m on Monday.
Competing in three finals over three consecutive days, Parul managed to secure podium finishes in two events while finishing fourth in the 1500m.
Her latest achievement contributes to India's athletics medal count at the Asian Games, showcasing her strong performance in a tightly contested women's 5000m final.
With Parul's recent bronze, India's overall medal tally has reached 42, which includes four gold, 18 silver, and 20 bronze medals. Currently, India stands at 12th place in the medal rankings, with athletics contributing 16 of these medals.
Earlier on the same day, Vithya Ramraj also won a bronze in the women's 400m hurdles, achieving a personal best of 54.75 seconds and breaking the national record she previously shared with PT Usha. Additionally, Gulveer Singh earned his second silver medal of the Games, finishing second in the men's 1500m with a personal best of 3:36.72, behind Japan's Kazuto Iizawa, who set a new Games record.
