Pakistan Secures T20I Tri-Series Title
In a thrilling conclusion to the T20I Tri-Series 2025 held in Rawalpindi, Pakistan emerged victorious with a decisive six-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Mohammad Nawaz made headlines by becoming Pakistan's fifth-highest wicket-taker in T20 internationals, surpassing the records of Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal, and achieving the milestone of 150 international wickets.
Currently, Nawaz has accumulated 86 T20I wickets, placing him behind notable bowlers like Haris Rauf, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Shahid Afridi.
The match showcased an impressive bowling display from the Pakistani team, led by the returning Shaheen Afridi and the spin of Nawaz.
Sri Lanka, after winning the toss and opting to bat, initially appeared strong but faced a dramatic downturn. Opener Kamil Mishara scored a commendable 59, which included two fours and four sixes, helping the team recover from an early setback when Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for just 11 runs, bringing the score to 84/2.
However, the innings quickly unraveled after the dismissals of Kusal Mendis (14) and Mishara, as Sri Lanka lost their last eight wickets for a mere 16 runs, finishing all out for 114 in just 19.1 overs.
Pakistan's bowlers delivered an exceptional performance, with Nawaz claiming three wickets for 17 runs over four overs, while Shaheen Afridi also took three wickets, ending with figures of 3 for 18. Leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed contributed significantly as well, securing two wickets.
Chasing a modest target of 115 runs, Pakistan's batting was steady, despite a brief hiccup. Openers Sahibzada Farhan (23) and Saim Ayub (36) set a solid foundation, reaching 46 without loss in 7.3 overs. After their dismissals, Babar Azam played a crucial role, finishing unbeaten with 37 runs off 34 balls. Pakistan comfortably reached 118 for 4 in 18.4 overs, clinching the tri-series trophy.
