Oman Set for T20 World Cup Qualifiers
New Delhi [India] - In an exciting announcement, Oman is preparing to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia and East Asia-Pacific Qualifier in October this year. As per the ICC's official website, a total of nine teams will compete in this prestigious event.
The qualifiers will feature sub-regional teams from 2024, including Kuwait, Malaysia, UAE, Qatar, Japan, and Samoa, joining Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and the host nation Oman. These teams will vie for three coveted spots in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Among the participants, Oman, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and the UAE have previously competed in the Men’s T20 World Cup. The tournament is scheduled to span ten days, with the group stage taking place from October 8 to 10.
The nine competing teams will be organized into three groups of three. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, which is set to occur from October 12 to 17. Ultimately, the top three teams from this stage will secure their places in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, slated to be held in India and Sri Lanka.
Group 1 will consist of the UAE, Malaysia, and Qatar, while Group 2 includes Nepal, Kuwait, and Japan, a rising contender from the East Asia-Pacific region. The host nation, Oman, will be in Group 3 alongside Papua New Guinea and Samoa.
Additionally, the pathway for the East Asia-Pacific women’s teams to the T20 World Cup 2026 has been outlined, with their qualifying event scheduled for September.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier will take place from September 9 to 15 in Suva, Fiji. The host nation will welcome teams from Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Japan, Samoa, the Cook Islands, and the Philippines for this qualifier.
Teams will be divided into two groups of four, leading to a final match, with the winning team earning a spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
