North Zone's Commanding Victory

New Delhi, March 15: North Zone edged closer to clinching the title with a stellar performance on Day 2 of the JK Bose Inter-Zonal T20 Cricket Trophy, decisively defeating South Zone at the Roshanara Cricket Ground on Sunday.


This tournament is part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations for the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) National Convention held in New Delhi.


In the opening match of the day, North Zone achieved a remarkable 10-wicket victory over South Zone. After being put to bat first, South Zone managed to score a respectable 187 runs for 4 wickets in their allotted 20 overs, with Shiva Krishna contributing a significant 89 runs and VL Sashank adding 50.


North Zone responded with confidence, successfully chasing down the target by scoring 188 runs without losing a wicket in just 18.2 overs. Rishabh Singh was the standout performer, scoring an impressive unbeaten century of 100 runs off 54 balls. Captain Akash Rawal contributed 38 runs before retiring hurt, while Amit finished with 33 runs, sealing a dominant win for North Zone.


In the second match at the Delhi Police Ground, West Zone triumphed over East Zone. East Zone batted first, posting a total of 132 runs for 7 wickets, with Sandeep Mishra scoring 37 and Sakal Sandha adding 35 runs. Devendra Pandey was effective with the ball for West, taking two wickets for 16 runs.


West Zone chased down the target in just 12.2 overs without losing a wicket, with Taus Rizvi scoring an unbeaten 58 and Devendra Pandey contributing 50 not out, leading West to a total of 133 runs.


North Zone is set to face East Zone tomorrow, and a victory in that match will secure the trophy for them.


In other news, during the table tennis team event at Roshanara Club, DSJA-1 and SJAM-1 advanced to the finals after winning their respective matches. DSJA-1, featuring Kushan Sarkar, Bharat Sharma, and Norris Pritam, defeated the Sports Writers Association of Bengaluru (SWAB-1), while SJAM-1, consisting of Amol Karhadkar, Ashwin Ferro, and Akush Dhavre, overcame the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists Association (TNSJA-1). The final will take place on Monday at the same venue.


Earlier in the day, former BCCI President C.K. Khanna and former DDCA vice-president Shashi Khanna were honored by DSJA President Abhishek Tripathi at Roshanara Club during the convention proceedings.
