North Mumbai Panthers Triumph Over Triumph Knights in T20 Mumbai League Opener
Exciting Start for North Mumbai Panthers in T20 Mumbai League
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 2: The North Mumbai Panthers, under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, kicked off their Nuvama Private T20 Mumbai League 2026 journey with a convincing 21-run win against Suryakumar Yadav's Triumph Knights Mumbai North East at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday.
Facing a challenging target of 210 runs, the Knights found it tough to maintain the required run rate, despite a commendable performance from substitute Nutan Goel, who scored a resilient 93 runs off 56 balls, as reported in a release.
The Knights' innings began poorly, losing both openers early, which brought India T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav (19) to the crease, much to the delight of the Wankhede crowd. Suryakumar responded positively, hitting four boundaries and helping the Knights reach 56/2 by the end of the Powerplay.
However, the Panthers turned the tide with left-arm spinner Rahul Sawant, who quickly dismissed both Suryakumar and Sagar Mishra.
Nutan and Harshal Jadhav tried to stabilize the innings with a 55-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Nutan, who was given a second chance at 24, reached his fifty in just 32 balls, hitting consecutive sixes. Unfortunately, as the required run rate increased, the Knights struggled to keep up and concluded their innings at 188/8.
Earlier, Hardik Tamore shone with the bat, scoring his first fifty of the tournament, which helped the North Mumbai Panthers achieve the season's first 200-plus total. After being sent in to bat on a favorable pitch, the Panthers made a strong start with Rahane (24) and Tamore, who put together 67 runs for the opening wicket during the Powerplay.
Although Rahane was dismissed after a quick start, Tamore continued to impress, scoring a stylish 67 runs off 43 balls, including nine fours and two sixes. Aayush Zimare (23) and Ayush Vartak (39) contributed to the score in the middle overs, while Tanush Kotian added a late surge with an unbeaten 30 runs off just 15 balls, pushing the Panthers past the 200-run mark.
Later in the day, the Shreyas Iyer-led SOBO Mumbai Falcons are set to face ARCS Andheri, captained by Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube, at the same venue.
