Nguyen Thuy Linh Triumphs Over PV Sindhu at Indian Open Badminton
Nguyen Thuy Linh's Strategic Victory
New Delhi, January 14: After her impressive victory against India's two-time Olympic champion PV Sindhu in the first round of the Indian Open, Vietnam's Nguyen Thuy Linh shared insights into her game plan. She emphasized a more patient and defensive style during the match.
Following a strong semifinal performance at the Malaysia Open, Sindhu faced a disappointing first-round exit at the Indian Open Badminton World Federation (BWF) Tour. This defeat against Nguyen gives the Vietnamese player a 3-2 lead in their head-to-head encounters, marking her third win over the Indian star. The final score was 20-22, 21-12, 21-15 in favor of Nguyen.
In her post-match comments, Nguyen expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating, “I think today I did well. It’s not just about winning or losing; I gave my all until the end of the match.”
Nguyen, who did not compete in the Malaysia Open before this event, focused on maximizing her performance against Sindhu. After making some errors in the first game, which she lost, she adjusted her strategy to be more defensive and patient.
“I reminded myself that I could lose, but I needed to learn from this match. I realized I had to be more patient when playing against Sindhu. In the first game, I was too eager to execute my shots, leading to several mistakes. However, I managed to adopt a more patient approach in the second and third games,” she explained.
When asked if this victory boosts her confidence for the upcoming World Championships, Nguyen noted, “There’s still a long time until the World Championships in Delhi later this year. Everyone will have matches to learn from, and I believe in taking things step by step.”
