Neymar's Injury Concerns Ahead of FIFA World Cup

New York [US], June 16 (Media House): Brazil's star forward Neymar may miss the entire group stage of the FIFA World Cup as the team's medical staff prioritizes his long-term health. The seasoned player is currently working to recover from a muscle injury.

According to a report from ESPN cited by Goal.com, Brazil's management is cautious about Neymar's condition, aiming to avoid any setbacks that could jeopardize his participation in the tournament. He was absent during the opening match against Morocco, which ended in a 1-1 draw. The focus is now on ensuring he is fit for a potential return in the knockout stages.

The medical team has determined that a cautious approach is necessary, indicating that Neymar is unlikely to play in the upcoming match against Haiti on Saturday.

Neymar is recovering from a grade-two calf injury sustained while playing for Santos on May 17. Although he has increased his gym workouts recently, he has not yet returned to full training with his teammates on the field.

At 32, Neymar can engage in individual training sessions, but he will only be allowed to participate in full team practices once the medical staff confirms he is pain-free. Having been away from competitive football for over a month, his lack of match rhythm is also a significant concern.

Brazil is devising a strategy to ensure Neymar achieves full fitness for the knockout rounds, which may result in him missing all group stage matches, including the game against Scotland in Miami on June 24. The team's performance will also influence this plan, as a decline in results could prompt a reassessment.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti expressed his desire for Neymar to be available but emphasized the importance of the player's health. He stated, as reported by Goal.com, "Neymar is working very hard to recover as quickly as possible. When we called up Neymar, we did it not just because of his technical quality, which is undeniable. But also because of his experience, he could represent an example for the younger players on the team."

The medical team has not dismissed the idea of conducting new imaging tests to evaluate the healing of his injury, with the results potentially determining whether Neymar will be fast-tracked into the lineup or continue his rehabilitation.
