New Zealand Dominates with 575 Runs in Third Test Against West Indies
New Zealand's Impressive Innings
Mount Maunganui [New Zealand], December 19: New Zealand showcased a formidable performance by declaring their innings at 575/8, driven by a century from captain Tom Latham, a remarkable double century from Devon Conway, and a spirited 72 from Rachin Ravindra. This occurred on the second day of the third and final Test match against the West Indies.
At the close of day two, the West Indies stood at 110/0, with John Campbell (45*) and Brandon King (55*) both not out, trailing by 465 runs.
Starting the day at 334/1, New Zealand's Conway (178*) was joined by Jacob Duffy (9*). The opening partnership between Latham (137 off 246 balls, including 15 fours and a six) and Conway set a record for the highest opening stand in New Zealand Test history, surpassing the previous record of 276 runs set by Stewie Dempster and Jackie Mills against England in 1930.
Jayden Seales (2/100) made an early breakthrough by dismissing Duffy, while Conway and Kane Williamson (31 off 60 balls, with five fours) added 69 runs together. Conway reached his second Test double century off 316 balls, hitting 28 fours.
However, Williamson, Conway, Daryl Mitchell (11), and Tom Blundell (4) fell quickly, leaving New Zealand at 461/6 after 133 overs. Rachin (72* off 106 balls, with six fours and two sixes) and Glenn Phillips (29 off 49 balls, with four boundaries) then propelled New Zealand past the 500-run mark in 143 overs.
New Zealand ultimately declared their innings at 575/8 after 155 overs.
For the West Indies, the bowling attack struggled, with Justin Greaves (2/83), Seales (2/100), and Anderson Phillip (2/134) each taking two wickets, while skipper Roston Chase and Kemar Roach claimed one wicket each.
As the day concluded, Campbell and King provided a solid start for the West Indies, reaching 50 runs in 9.5 overs and 100 runs in 19.2 overs.
The West Indies will aim to build on their recent positive performances, including their earlier Test against India in Delhi this year.
Brief Scores: NZ: 575/8 (Devon Conway 227, Tom Latham 127, Justin Greaves 2/83) vs. WI: 110 in 23 overs (John Campbell 45*, Brandon King 55*).
