Introduction of New Selection Rules

New Delhi, January 8: The Union government has officially announced the National Sports Board (Search-cum Selection Committee) Rules for 2026, as part of the National Sports Governance Act of 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.


The Ministry highlighted that these new rules empower the Central Government to form a Search-cum-Selection Committee. This committee will be led by the Cabinet Secretary and will include the Secretary of Sports, an individual with a background in sports administration, and two national sports award winners.


The primary role of this committee is to propose candidates for the positions of Chairperson and two board members. These individuals must possess integrity, capability, and a solid understanding of public administration, sports governance, sports law, and related areas.


With the introduction of the National Sports Board (Search-cum-Selection Committee) Rules, 2026, the selection process for the Chairperson and Members of the National Sports Board will commence. This board will serve as the main authority for recognizing National Sports Bodies and ensuring adherence to governance, financial, and ethical standards.
