Neeraj Chopra's Upcoming Challenge at Lausanne

Lausanne, Switzerland - On August 21, former Olympic and World Championship gold medalist Neeraj Chopra is scheduled to participate in the Lausanne Diamond League, as confirmed by the event organizers on Monday.

This prestigious meet, also referred to as 'Athletissima', marks Neeraj's fourth appearance in Lausanne. The Indian javelin star enters the competition with a Commonwealth Games silver medal and a personal best throw of 85.83 meters, aiming to regain his peak performance, according to Olympics.com.

At last year's event, the 28-year-old athlete clinched victory with an impressive throw of 89.08 meters, successfully defending his title in the subsequent edition with a throw of 87.66 meters. In the 2024 Lausanne Diamond League, he finished as the runner-up with a remarkable throw of 89.49 meters.

The upcoming 2026 edition promises to feature a highly competitive field, including the newly crowned Commonwealth Games champion Rumesh Pathirage from Sri Lanka, who leads the current season with a best throw of 89.75 meters.

Other notable competitors include Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan, adding an exciting 'India versus Pakistan' dynamic to the event. Additionally, two-time world champion Anderson Peters, Germany's Thomas Rohler, and Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago are also set to compete.

This will be Neeraj's third competition of the year, following a fourth-place finish at the Doha Diamond League in June and his silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. This season marks his return to competition after a significant injury layoff, having taken time off after finishing eighth at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships. His best throw this season was recorded during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Lausanne has historically been a successful venue for Neeraj, and he hopes to break his title drought, as he has not topped the podium since winning the Neeraj Chopra Classic in July 2025. Since then, his best results have included a runner-up finish in the Diamond League season final in 2025 and a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2026.
