On December 22, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra and his spouse, Himani Mor, who is also a former tennis player, paid a visit to the residence of former Indian President Ram Nath Kovind.
Ram Nath Kovind took to X to share that the couple came over for a courtesy call, exchanging festive greetings during their meeting.
In his post, Kovind mentioned, “Lt Col Neeraj Chopra, PVSM, VSM, Olympic Gold medallist, along with his wife Smt. Himani paid a courtesy visit at my residence today. We exchanged seasonal greetings.”
Earlier in October, Neeraj Chopra was honored with the title of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army. The 27-year-old athlete received this recognition during a ceremony in New Delhi, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to sports. Although he was officially appointed to the rank on April 16, the pipping ceremony occurred on October 22, where Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presented him with the insignia.
Neeraj, born in 1997 in Khandra village, Panipat, Haryana, has made significant strides in javelin throw. He secured India's first Olympic gold in athletics at the Tokyo 2020 Games and followed it with a silver medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Additionally, he made history by becoming India's first senior athletics world champion, winning gold at the Budapest 2023 World Championships after previously earning silver at Oregon 2022, thus breaking a 19-year medal drought for India at the event.
The Indian javelin star has also triumphed at the Asian Games (2018, 2023), the Commonwealth Games (2018), the Asian Athletics Championships (2017), and the Diamond League. His personal best throw of 90.23 meters, achieved in 2025 at the Doha Diamond League, stands as the national record.
Neeraj has been honored with the Arjuna Award in 2018 and the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for 2021, two of the highest sports accolades in India. In 2022, he was also bestowed with the Padma Shri, India's highest civilian award, along with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal from the Indian military for his excellence in sports.
