NCC Cadets Shine at 35th All India GV Mavalankar Shooting Championship

Outstanding Performance at the Championship

NCC cadets showcased their exceptional skills by securing a total of 27 medals at the 35th All India GV Mavalankar Shooting Championship (AIGVMSC)-2026, which took place in Mohali from September 12 to 22. Their impressive haul comprised 13 gold, six silver, and eight bronze medals.

A total of 62 cadets from various NCC Directorates across India participated in this prestigious event. Notably, 48 of these cadets, including 24 girls, achieved the Minimum Qualifying Score (MQS) necessary for the National Championship, as reported by a defence spokesperson on Wednesday.

The AIGVMSC serves as a significant pre-national shooting competition organized annually by the National Rifle Association of India. Its main objective is to enable shooters to meet the MQS required for entry into higher-level national competitions.

The medal distribution included four gold, one silver, and four bronze in the Peep Sight Prone event; three gold, two silver, and one bronze in Open Sight Prone; three gold, one silver, and two bronze in Open Sight 3-Position; three gold in Air Rifle; and two silver and one bronze in Peep Sight 3-Position.

The Uttar Pradesh Directorate, along with the Karnataka and Goa Directorate, emerged as the leading NCC performers, each securing five medals. They were followed closely by the Maharashtra Directorate, Delhi Directorate, and the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh Directorate.

Gold medalists included Devang Sharma, Tanu, and Mohit from Uttar Pradesh, Yogaraj Ramagonatti and Gowri S from Karnataka, Mayuresh Santosh Pawar from Maharashtra, Shivcharan Kaur from Punjab, and Kunami Hansda from West Bengal, with some winning multiple medals.

An official statement highlighted, “These results reaffirm the high standards of marksmanship training provided by the National Cadet Corps and the commitment of the cadets, coaches, and support staff. Such achievements not only bring pride to their respective Directorates but also enhance NCC’s role in the national shooting sports landscape.”

Shooting is a vital aspect of NCC activities, with cadets trained by Armed Forces personnel regularly competing in various state, national, and international events, where they have earned numerous accolades. Many former NCC cadets have also excelled on the international stage.
