Nathan Smith's Stellar Performance Earns ICC Recognition

New Delhi [India] - July 20: Nathan Smith, the New Zealand fast bowler, has been honored as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for June 2026, thanks to his outstanding performances during the ICC World Test Championship.

Smith was instrumental in New Zealand's impressive 2-1 Test series victory over England, showcasing his skill and consistency as the spearhead of the bowling lineup, according to the ICC's official announcement.

He triumphed over competitors such as Bangladesh's Mossadek Hossain and India's Shubman Gill to secure this esteemed accolade.

Upon receiving the award, Smith expressed his gratitude, stating, “This is truly special. The tour of England was fantastic for the team, and it feels great to be recognized. I don’t typically focus on individual accolades, but it’s rewarding to have played a part in our series win.”

At 28, Smith emerged as the top wicket-taker in the series, claiming 16 wickets and earning the Player of the Series title, despite New Zealand's loss in the first Test at Lord's.

His remarkable performance in the opening match included three wickets in the first innings and an impressive career-best of 6/70 in the second innings, although it came in a defeat.

Throughout the series, Smith consistently made crucial contributions, helping New Zealand recover to win the last two Tests and achieve a remarkable comeback.

In the second Test, he took one wicket but also contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 38 runs to strengthen New Zealand's position in the second innings.

In the decisive third Test, Smith's figures of 4/91 in the first innings provided New Zealand with a crucial 82-run lead, and he added two more wickets in the second innings, securing the series victory.

With several key bowlers sidelined due to injuries, Smith stepped up as the leader of a weakened attack and delivered exceptional performances.
