Nathan Lyon's Impact in the Upcoming Test Championship

New Delhi [India] June 10: Veteran Australian spinner Nathan Lyon, with an impressive tally of 553 Test wickets, showcased his talent with a remarkable four-wicket performance in the 2023 World Test Championship Final.

As Australia gears up to take on South Africa in the ICC World Test Championship Final on June 11, star batsman Steve Smith has shared insights about the conditions that may influence the match's outcome, as reported by the ICC website.

In his pre-match comments, Smith noted that the pitch at Lord's appears drier than usual, suggesting it could change significantly during the game.

“I believe spin will be crucial, especially as the match progresses,” Smith remarked, according to ICC. “It’s quite dry; we only arrived here a week ago, and it’s looking pretty dry for the start of the season.”

Traditionally, Lord's is known for its seam-friendly conditions, with expectations for both teams to field pace-heavy bowling lineups. However, this year's early summer in England has been unusual, a sentiment echoed by Smith.

“There hasn’t been much rain, which is quite rare for England,” he added.

With the pitch seemingly setting the stage for Lyon to display his skills, reminiscent of his performance in the 2023 World Test Championship Final where he achieved figures of 4/41 in the second innings, dismantling India's batting order to secure victory for Australia at The Oval.

The 37-year-old spinner boasts an impressive record against South Africa, having taken 56 wickets in 14 Test matches.

While Lyon can make a significant impact regardless of the conditions, he will be hoping for a pitch that complements his abilities to help Australia maintain their title as Test Champions.
