Naman Dhir Shines as Impact Player of the Series in T20I Against New Zealand
Naman Dhir's Stellar Performance Recognized
In a remarkable display of talent, Indian all-rounder Naman Dhir received the Impact Player of the Series award following his outstanding performances during his first overseas tour in the five-match T20I series against New Zealand, which India clinched 3-2.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video on social media showcasing Adrian Le Roux, India's strength and conditioning coach, presenting the medal to Dhir after the final T20I held in Hamilton on Sunday.
The BCCI praised Dhir's contributions, stating, "The one who stepped onto the plate and took responsibility for the team. A stellar maiden overseas tour, capped off with the Impact Player of the Series medal for Naman Dhir."
Upon receiving the medal, Dhir expressed his gratitude for the recognition and celebrated India's series triumph.
"First of all, thank you Adrian for giving me this medal. I really enjoyed it, especially it is quite satisfying that we won the overseas series. It’s my first overseas tour and I’m getting this medal," Dhir remarked.
The 26-year-old made a notable impact with the bat, accumulating 138 runs across five matches. He kicked off the series with an impressive 42 runs off just 15 balls in the opening T20I, followed by 31 runs off 17 balls in the second match.
Dhir also contributed with scores of 28 off 13 balls in the fourth T20I and wrapped up the series with 33 runs off 23 deliveries in the final match. Notably, he hit the winning boundary in the third T20I, helping India secure a 3-0 lead.
While he bowled only two overs without taking a wicket, Dhir's fielding efforts were commendable.
Having made his T20I debut against West Indies in Lucknow last month, Dhir has played in 10 T20Is and three ODIs for India. Known for his explosive batting in the middle order and part-time spin bowling, he has made a strong case for his inclusion in India's white-ball squad.
India faced a setback in the fifth T20I, losing by seven wickets at Seddon Park, as New Zealand successfully chased down a target of 192 runs in just 17.4 overs. Tim Seifert was the standout performer for New Zealand, scoring 93 runs off 50 balls, while Glenn Phillips contributed an unbeaten 65 off 38 deliveries.
Phillips, who amassed 341 runs throughout the series, was awarded the Player of the Series title, marking the highest run tally by a batter in a five-match T20I bilateral series.
Despite the losses in the last two matches, India had already secured the series victory by winning the first three games.
The focus now shifts to Auckland, where India will face New Zealand in the first ODI match on Wednesday.
