Mumbai Indians' Tough IPL Journey

Despite facing a challenging IPL season characterized by injuries and inconsistent performances, the Mumbai Indians continue to uphold their spirit as 'one family', according to top-order batsman Naman Dhir. Speaking on Tuesday, Dhir emphasized that the atmosphere within the team has remained positive, even as they grappled with the impact of three different captains throughout the campaign.

The five-time champions have already been eliminated from playoff contention, securing only four victories out of 12 matches, with injuries to key players significantly affecting their performance.

Dhir noted, "Our discussions have always been constructive, never negative. We struggled to maintain a consistent collective effort, which ultimately hindered our success," during a media session ahead of their upcoming match against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

MI's captain Hardik Pandya has been sidelined for the last three matches due to a back spasm, having last played against the Chennai Super Kings on May 2.

In his absence, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah have taken turns leading the team, marking a season with three different captains.

When questioned about the impact of frequent leadership changes on team dynamics, Dhir firmly rejected the notion, stating, "The environment has never been disruptive. We operate as one family, and each captain brings unique strategies. I have enjoyed playing under all of them."

Pandya missed games against the Lucknow Super Giants, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings, while Suryakumar was unavailable for the Dharamsala match due to the birth of his child, which led to Bumrah stepping in as captain.

Dhir acknowledged that injuries to senior players have been a significant setback for MI's season. He mentioned, "Rohit had a hamstring issue, and Surya had to leave for paternity reasons. Their absence in crucial matches was felt. Now, Quinny (Quinton de Kock) is also out for the season due to a tendon injury in his left wrist sustained before our home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad."

Rohit played in only seven of MI's 12 matches due to his injury, while De Kock's recent injury has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Expressing disappointment at not being able to deliver for their fans, Dhir said, "We are truly saddened that we couldn't bring the trophy home. Our motivation is always to win for our supporters, and we will strive to give our best in the remaining matches."

Regarding the status of Pandya and Suryakumar, Dhir confirmed, "Everyone has practiced and rejoined the team."
