Mumbai Indians Face Uncertainty as Hardik Pandya's Fitness Remains in Question
Hardik Pandya's Preparations Amid Injury Concerns
As the Mumbai Indians headed to Dharamsala for their IPL 2026 match against the Punjab Kings, captain Hardik Pandya opted to stay back in Mumbai for personal training. On Tuesday night, he shared videos on his Instagram stories showcasing his batting practice against net bowlers and throwdown specialists. His participation in the upcoming match remains uncertain, having missed the last two games due to a back spasm and not traveling with the team. Hardik was noticeably absent when the squad arrived in Dharamsala on Monday afternoon. The Mumbai support staff is currently assessing his injury status, as reported by Cricbuzz. This season has been challenging for the Mumbai Indians, who were among the first teams to be eliminated from playoff contention, putting additional pressure on Pandya. So far, he has taken only four wickets and scored 146 runs, leading to criticism of his performance.
Suryakumar Yadav's Absence and Team Dynamics
Additionally, Suryakumar Yadav, who recently welcomed a child, was also missing from the traveling squad for personal reasons. However, he is expected to join the team in Dharamsala soon, stepping in as the acting captain during Hardik's absence.

MI Out Of Playoff Race
After a narrow two-wicket defeat to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the Mumbai Indians' hopes for the IPL 2026 playoffs were dashed. Mahela Jayawardene expressed his disappointment, stating that the team simply did not perform well enough this season. He pointed out that despite some strong individual performances, the team struggled with consistency at crucial moments. The loss to RCB marked the end of their playoff aspirations, leaving MI to reflect on a season that fell short of expectations. "It's disappointing; we've had our chances, but we weren't consistent enough with both bat and ball, and that showed in the results," Jayawardene remarked after the match.
