Mumbai Indians Address Jasprit Bumrah's Form Ahead of RCB Clash
Mumbai Indians Discuss Bumrah's Performance
The Mumbai Indians (MI) have downplayed worries regarding Jasprit Bumrah's current form as they prepare for their upcoming match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Wankhede Stadium. Bumrah has yet to take a wicket in the first three matches of IPL 2026, a situation reminiscent of his performance during the 2017-18 season. His longest stretch without a wicket occurred in 2014 when he went four matches without claiming one. MI's batting coach, Kieron Pollard, emphasized that Bumrah's worth should not be solely measured by his wicket tally. “In today's T20 cricket, focusing only on wickets is not the way to go. Teams have been scoring over 100 runs in the powerplay recently. Sometimes, the best strategy is to defend. Jasprit Bumrah is an elite bowler who has consistently performed for both India and the Mumbai Indians. When the moment arises, he will take wickets. If he remains economical, we are satisfied with that as well,” Pollard stated ahead of the match against RCB.
'Bumrah Is Fit, Fine And Performing'
Despite Bumrah's wicketless streak, he has been delivering solid performances, contributing crucial overs. In the recent match against the Rajasthan Royals, he faced challenges from Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, which led to some doubts about his effectiveness. However, Pollard firmly rejected these concerns, asserting that the pacer is fulfilling his role effectively. “We’re not worried. If batters are scoring quickly, you don’t always counterattack—you adapt. Whether the score is 130 or lower, we don’t overthink it. Cricket is a team game, and for us, Bumrah is fit, fine, and executing his role well.” Currently, the Mumbai Indians sit eighth in the points table with one win and two losses, while RCB recently faced their first defeat of the season against the Rajasthan Royals.
