Mumbai City FC Secures Victory Against Inter Kashi
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], March 15: In an exciting match on Sunday at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan, Mumbai City FC managed to fend off a determined Inter Kashi to clinch a 2-1 win in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26.
This victory marked the Islanders' third win of the season, elevating them to third place in the league standings with a total of 11 points, while Inter Kashi remained in eighth position with five points. Lallianzuala Chhangte, the captain of the Islanders, was named Player of the Match, as noted in a press release.
Mumbai started strong, dominating possession and applying pressure on their opponents. Ayush Chhikara was the first to test the Inter Kashi defense, taking a shot in the fourth minute that was easily saved by goalkeeper Lluis Tarres. Chhikara had another opportunity in the 18th minute but missed narrowly after receiving a setup from Chhangte.
Ortiz also attempted a long-range shot in the 20th minute, but it went over the bar. Inter Kashi struggled to create significant chances early on, with Sumeet Passi's attempt from outside the box in the 22nd minute being blocked by the Mumbai defense.
Despite Mumbai's control of the game, Inter Kashi maintained a solid defensive structure and looked to counterattack. Llamas forced a save from Lachenpa in the 42nd minute with a shot from the right side.
The first goal came just before halftime when Noufal PN scored from a corner taken by Chhangte, giving Mumbai a narrow lead going into the break.
Inter Kashi came out strong in the second half and equalized quickly. In the 51st minute, Sandip Mandi sent in a perfect cross from the left, which Rohit Danu converted with a header to make it 1-1.
However, Mumbai responded just a minute later. Ortiz delivered a precise through ball to Chhangte, who calmly finished with his left foot, restoring Mumbai's lead in the 52nd minute.
The match became more open as both teams sought additional goals. Petkevicius tested Lachenpa with a close-range shot, while Danu's long-range attempt also required a save from the Mumbai goalkeeper. At the other end, Noufal's effort was denied by Tarres.
Inter Kashi continued to search for an equalizer, with Petkevicius shooting wide from distance in the 58th minute and Llamas heading just off target from a Danu cross in the 67th minute.
Mumbai faced a setback late in the game when Hmingthanmawia Ralte received a red card, reducing them to ten men. Inter Kashi pressed hard in the final moments, with Wayne Vaz forcing a crucial save from Lachenpaa.
Despite their late efforts, including hitting the crossbar twice, Inter Kashi could not find the equalizer, and Mumbai City FC held on for a 2-1 victory.
