Dhoni's English Getaway

MS Dhoni has been relishing a holiday in England for the past few weeks. Recently, he celebrated his 45th birthday there and was seen in the audience during the first ODI match between India and England in Birmingham. Accompanied by his wife, Sakshi, and friends, Dhoni shared popcorn with a young admirer, creating a memorable experience for the fan. He also attended the third T20I at Trent Bridge, where India faced a significant defeat by 125 runs. Dhoni frequently visits the UK and enjoys spending summers there. The former captain of India is currently only participating in the IPL, having retired from international cricket in August 2020 after a hiatus of over a year. He has not played in domestic cricket since 2017.

Dhoni remains active in the IPL with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), although a calf injury sidelined him for the entire IPL 2026 season. Initially, he was expected to miss two weeks of the tournament, but after sustaining another injury during practice, he was ruled out for the remainder of the season. Fans can look forward to his return in IPL 2027, as CSK retained him for Rs 4 crore in the uncapped category ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction.

India's ODI Challenge

India chasing 258

In the meantime, India is pursuing a target of 259 runs in the opening match of the series. After being asked to bowl first, India managed to dismiss the home side for 258 runs. Gurnoor Brar took out England's openers, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell, early on. Other key players like Harry Brook (1), Jos Buttler (5), Sam Curran (0), and Will Jacks (20) also fell quickly, putting England in a precarious position. However, Joe Root and Liam Dawson steadied the innings, adding 121 runs for the seventh wicket. Dawson achieved his first ODI half-century, scoring 68 runs off 83 balls, while Root remained not out at 76 runs off the same number of balls, helping England surpass the 250-run mark.
