Morocco's Coach Highlights Brazil Draw as Key Benchmark Ahead of Haiti Clash
Morocco Prepares for Crucial Match Against Haiti
Atlanta [US], June 24: As Morocco gears up for their final group stage match against Haiti in the FIFA World Cup, coach Mohamed Ouahbi emphasized that their recent 1-1 draw with Brazil serves as a significant benchmark for the team. He expressed confidence in their potential to make a substantial impact in global football.
The 2022 World Cup semifinalists are determined to maintain their momentum and secure a spot in the round of 32. Following their commendable draw against Brazil, they narrowly defeated Scotland 1-0, placing them second in the group standings with four points.
In his pre-match comments, Ouahbi stated, "The match against Brazil was crucial for us, but we are focused on the present and not looking too far ahead." He acknowledged the discussions surrounding the Netherlands but pointed out that other matches, including those against Japan, will also be pivotal as they prepare for the knockout stage.
He remarked, "These benchmark games are essential for our readiness, whether we face the Netherlands, Japan, France, Portugal, or Argentina."
Addressing concerns about the fitness of first-choice goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, Ouahbi hinted at possible lineup changes for the upcoming match against Haiti, where qualification is on the line.
"We are likely to qualify, but we must secure a victory in our next match," he noted. "I will depend on all 26 players in the squad, and you know who they are," he added.
"Our goal is to win, so we will select the strongest lineup possible. Decisions need to be made, but our priority is to win and finish the group stage at the top. First, we must win, and then we will see where that takes us," he concluded.
