Morne Morkel Confident in Rohit Sharma's Return to Form Ahead of ODI Decider
Morkel Backs Sharma Ahead of Crucial ODI
London [UK], July 18: Morne Morkel, the bowling coach for India, expressed his belief that Rohit Sharma will regain his form during the ongoing ODI series against England. He reassured that there are "no worries or concerns" regarding the seasoned opener's recent struggles as the teams prepare for the decisive match at Lord's on Sunday.
Morkel highlighted Sharma's vast experience and steady demeanor, which instills confidence in the Indian batting lineup.
Speaking to reporters before the third ODI at the historic Lord's, Morkel noted, "As I mentioned earlier, facing a new ball can be challenging. Throughout the series, we've observed that the ball has been moving, making it tough for batsmen at the start."
He added, "I have no doubt that Rohit will find his rhythm. He has successfully navigated similar situations before, leveraging his experience. His calmness is invaluable to our batting order, so I have complete faith in him."
In the first two matches, Sharma scored 11 and 26 runs, making the upcoming ODI at Lord's a crucial opportunity for him to make a significant impact in the series.
After losing in Birmingham, England managed to equalize in Cardiff, setting the stage for a winner-takes-all showdown at Lord's, known as the Home of Cricket.
India is striving for their first ODI victory at Lord's since 2004, and a win in this final match would not only secure the series but also conclude their tour on a high note.
Additionally, Harsh Dubey has been called up to replace Washington Sundar in the Indian squad for the final ODI against England at Lord's, as Sundar is sidelined due to a right hamstring injury sustained during the second ODI in Cardiff.
Morkel mentioned that all options are being evaluated for Sundar's replacement in the playing XI. "As I sit here, every possibility is being considered. We just arrived here half an hour ago, and I’m sure Gautam (Gambhir) will assess the pitch conditions. They will likely announce a squad of 12 or 13 players and finalize the lineup based on the conditions tomorrow. For now, all players remain in contention for selection," he stated.
