Mohammed Amir Reacts to India's Triumph in T20 World Cup 2026
Amir's Disappointment After India's Victory
Following India's impressive victory in the 2026 T20 World Cup, Mohammed Amir expressed his frustration after his predictions fell flat. The renowned Pakistani fast bowler was left embarrassed as the Suryakumar Yadav-led team decisively defeated New Zealand by 96 runs at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8. Prior to the match, Amir had confidently asserted that New Zealand would emerge victorious. He had also previously claimed that India would not make it to the semifinals, and later suggested that England would eliminate India from the tournament. With his predictions failing for the third consecutive time, Amir's agitation was evident. In a video shared by GEOTV's Hasana Mana Hai Show on Instagram, he remarked, "They won, that's fine, they'll take the cup home, they won't bring it to my house, well done..."
Criticism of New Zealand's Performance
Amir Points Fingers at New Zealand's Strategy
In his frustration, Amir shifted the blame onto New Zealand's bowlers and their captain, Mitchell Santner. He expressed disbelief at the pressure the New Zealand team faced, stating, “Credit to New Zealand bowlers. They were bowling wides and were being hit for sixes. It's not that India doesn't deserve any credit, but I was puzzled by the bowling changes. When you know Abhishek Sharma struggles against spinners, why bring in Jacob Duffy? I have never seen New Zealand under such pressure. I have been following them since 2005, and this is unprecedented,” Amir commented on the Haarna Mana Hai show. He acknowledged India's achievement, stating, “They have shattered the myth that only fast bowlers can win tournaments. Batters can do that too. They have demonstrated this by scoring over 250 runs in both the semi-final and final on flat pitches.”
Adding to Amir's disappointment was Abhishek Sharma's remarkable performance, as the world's top-ranked batter scored a rapid half-century off just 18 balls, propelling India to a formidable total of 255 runs. Earlier in the tournament, Amir had made disparaging remarks about Sharma during his struggles with form.
