Mohammad Amir Joins Nottinghamshire for T20 Blast as Local Player
Mohammad Amir's New Chapter with Nottinghamshire
Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has signed with Nottinghamshire for the remainder of the T20 Blast, taking on the role of a local player. Since retiring from international cricket in 2020, Amir has been residing in England. He announced plans to obtain British citizenship in 2024, and earlier this year, he returned from retirement to represent Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. However, he declared a second retirement from international cricket in December 2024. Now holding a British passport, Amir expressed his enthusiasm about joining Nottinghamshire, stating, “I’m really excited to have joined Notts. I’ve heard lots of good things about this club, and I’m looking forward to it. I have lots and lots of memories at Trent Bridge, and I know that T20 is all about entertaining the people, so I’ll be trying my best to do well for this team and make this crowd happy. The team have played the last three games really well, and I’ll be trying to help carry that momentum forward throughout the tournament.”
Amir has previously played for various teams in England and is a one-time winner of the T20 Vitality Blast trophy, having lifted the title with Essex in 2019.
Mohammad Amir's Career Overview
Making his debut for Pakistan at just 17 years old in 2009, Amir's career faced a setback when he was banned for his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal a year later. His five-year ban concluded in 2015, allowing him to return to the Test squad in 2016. However, he lost his spot in the team a couple of years later and was not initially included in the preliminary squad for the 2019 World Cup, though he was added later. Amir retired from Test cricket in 2019 and from international cricket a year later, only to make a comeback in T20Is in 2024. Throughout his career, Amir took 119 wickets in 36 Tests, 81 wickets in 61 ODIs, and 71 wickets in 62 T20 matches, and he continues to participate in T20 leagues worldwide.
