Moeen Ali Chooses PSL Over IPL for Family Time and More Game Opportunities
Moeen Ali's Decision to Join PSL
Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali recently shared insights into his choice of participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) instead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season. After a disappointing stint with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2025, where he managed only five runs across six matches and took six wickets, Moeen found himself sidelined from the playing XI. At the age of 38, he faced the possibility of not being picked in the auction, prompting him to seek opportunities in the PSL.
Discussing his transition from IPL to PSL, Moeen highlighted that the PSL's shorter format is more conducive to his family life. “There are several factors influencing my decision. At 38, I still have the desire to play and perform well to prolong my career. The shorter duration of the PSL is beneficial for my family and me,” he mentioned during an interview on ARY Podcast.
Desire for More Game Time
Moeen expressed his need for more playing time at this stage of his career, noting that he had limited opportunities in the IPL last year. "In the previous IPL season, I participated in only half of the matches and batted just twice. At this point, I want to be actively playing; I feel I'm performing well as I approach the latter part of my career, and I want to continue that momentum," he stated.
Having signed with Karachi Kings for PSL 2026, Moeen revealed that he has always been eager to participate in the PSL, but the tournament's schedule often conflicted with the IPL. “While there's no guarantee of a spot in any team, my goal is to enjoy my cricket as much as possible. I’ve always wanted to experience the PSL, but the timing has been a challenge due to its overlap with the IPL,” he concluded.
