In a recent match during the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), Mitchell Marsh narrowly missed scoring his second century of the season. Playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on May 19, the Australian cricketer scored 96 runs off 57 balls before being dismissed in the final over. This was the second time in a row that Marsh fell short of a century, having previously scored 90 runs against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) just days earlier on May 15, where he was also run out.
Mitchell Marsh's Unfortunate Milestone
Marsh has now become the first player in IPL history to be run out twice while scoring in the 90s. Prior to his record, only three other players had experienced this misfortune in the league's history, with the last occurrence happening over ten years ago. Additionally, Marsh is only the second player in the history of Men's T20 cricket to be run out twice while scoring in the 90s, with Chris Gayle being the only other player to have faced this situation. Gayle was run out for 89 runs against India during the 2010 T20 World Cup and also in a 2015 IPL match.
Furthermore, Marsh is the third player to be dismissed in the 90s multiple times within a single season, following Glenn Maxwell, who achieved this feat three times in 2014 while playing for Kings XI Punjab. Notably, Marsh is the first player to be dismissed in the 90s in consecutive innings, while Jos Buttler previously scored in the 90s in back-to-back innings in 2018 but remained unbeaten on both occasions.
