Glasgow [Scotland], July 26: Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his congratulations to weightlifter Mirabai Chanu after she achieved her third consecutive gold medal at the Commonwealth Games, dominating the women's 48kg weightlifting category in Glasgow. This victory marked India's first gold medal at the 2026 CWG.
Chanu's gold came shortly after her fellow athlete Rishikanta Singh secured a silver medal in the men's 60kg event during the same competition.
With this latest triumph, the athlete from Manipur has now added a third gold medal to her accolades, having previously won in 2018 and 2022.
In a message posted on X, Amit Shah praised Mirabai Chanu (31) for her remarkable achievement, calling it a proud moment for the nation and highlighting how her success has inspired pride across India.

Chanu, who previously set a Commonwealth record with an 85 kg lift in the snatch, began the clean and jerk segment with an initial unsuccessful attempt at 82 kg. However, she returned to successfully lift 82 kg on her second try, followed by an impressive 85 kg lift on her third attempt, setting a new Games and Commonwealth record.
She then attempted a lift of 105 kg, which she successfully raised above her head, securing the gold medal and completing her remarkable hat-trick of Commonwealth Games gold medals.
