Islamabad [Pakistan], August 4: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially announced the appointment of Michael Smith as the batting coach for the national men's cricket team.

Smith, who has a wealth of experience in both first-class and limited-overs cricket, will be involved with the team in all formats, including red-ball and white-ball games. The 46-year-old cricketer has played 89 first-class matches, 72 List-A games, and 16 T20 matches between 2003 and 2013, according to ICC records.

In addition to his playing career, Smith has been part of the coaching staff in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), working with teams such as Islamabad United and Karachi Kings. Earlier this season, he served as the assistant coach for Multan Sultans. His coaching experience also includes roles with Australia's Hobart Hurricanes and Cricket Tasmania, as well as consultancy positions with South Africa's KZN Inland and Eastern Province.

Smith's tenure as batting coach will last for two years, and he is set to lead the team as they prepare for a three-match Test series against England, which begins on August 19.

Currently, Pakistan is engaged in a Test series against the West Indies and is ranked ninth in the ICC World Test Championship standings.
