Brisbane, Oct 9: Australian fast bowler Megan Schutt has marked a remarkable achievement by claiming her 150th wicket in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the opening match against the Bangladesh women's team at Allan Border Field on Friday.
With this accomplishment, Schutt becomes the third Australian cricketer to reach this milestone, joining the ranks of renowned all-rounder Ellyse Perry (166 wickets) and former fast bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180 wickets).
Entering the first ODI of the three-match series, the 33-year-old needed just two wickets to hit the milestone. She achieved this by dismissing Sarmin Sultana in the third over after claiming the wicket of Fargana Hoque on the very first ball of the match.
Schutt's opening delivery was a stunning delivery that caught Hoque off guard, as it jagged in after pitching, leading to an edge that was comfortably caught by Phoebe Litchfield at first slip.
She reached the 150-wicket mark in the third over, delivering a fuller ball to Sarmim that swung in, resulting in a leg before wicket (LBW) decision from the umpire.
Overall, Schutt is the 12th player in ODI history to achieve 150 wickets. The all-time record is held by Indian legend Jhulan Goswami, who has taken 255 wickets. Among Australians, Fitzpatrick leads with 180 wickets, followed by Perry.
In the match itself, Annabel Sutherland excelled with four wickets, while Ashleigh Gardner, vice-captain Tahlia McGrath, and Georgia Wareham each contributed with one wicket as Bangladesh was bowled out for 166 runs. Ritu Moni was the standout performer for Bangladesh, scoring 45 runs, the only score above 30 from their batting lineup.
