Matthew Hayden Joins Glasgow Cosmic Ahead of ETPL

Glasgow [Scotland], June 10: Renowned Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden has officially become the co-owner and head coach of Glasgow Cosmic, just in time for the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League (ETPL). This marks a significant development for the franchise as it gears up for its first campaign.

As a World Cup champion and one of the most esteemed opening batsmen in cricket history, Hayden brings extensive international experience and leadership skills to the Glasgow-based team, as stated in a recent announcement.

His new role enhances Glasgow Cosmic's aspirations to establish a competitive and internationally recognized cricket brand within the growing European cricket scene.

Expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter, Hayden remarked, “I am truly honored and humbled to take on the role of Head Coach for the Glasgow Cosmics in the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League. Cricket has provided me with countless opportunities throughout my career—as a player, teammate, mentor, broadcaster, and coach—and the chance to help develop a new franchise from the ground up is an exciting challenge for me.”

Hayden noted that the franchise's long-term vision and leadership were key factors in his decision to join the project.

“What drew me to the Glasgow Cosmics was not just the cricketing opportunity, but the vision behind it. Successful teams are built on strong values, a clear purpose, and individuals willing to think boldly. From our initial discussions, I recognized that ambition in Dr. Rashid Khan, CEO of Mugafi Group, and the leadership team at Mugafi Sports,” he shared.

He also outlined the team's goals for the upcoming season.

“Our aim is to create a team that plays fearless cricket, embraces innovation, honors the traditions of the game, and fosters a strong bond with the people of Glasgow and cricket enthusiasts worldwide.”

Emphasizing the importance of the new league, Hayden described the European T20 Premier League as a pivotal opportunity for the global growth of cricket.

“The European T20 Premier League marks an exciting new chapter for cricket on a global scale. It opens doors for emerging players, creates new pathways for talent, and highlights the sport's ability to bring people together across cultures and borders.”

As Glasgow Cosmic prepares for its inaugural season, Hayden expressed optimism about the journey ahead. “I am eager to collaborate with our coaching staff, management, players, and supporters as we embark on this journey together. This is a new club, a new competition, and a new opportunity. Now, the real work begins. See you in Glasgow.”
