Matheesha Pathirana Bids Emotional Farewell to CSK After Joining KKR
Pathirana's Transition from CSK to KKR
Abu Dhabi [UAE], December 16: Matheesha Pathirana, the Sri Lankan fast bowler, has officially joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for a staggering Rs 18 crores. In a heartfelt farewell message to his previous team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he expressed how his time with the five-time champions significantly influenced his growth both as a cricketer and an individual.
During the IPL 2026 auction, Pathirana was acquired by KKR after an intense bidding war that began with Delhi Capitals (DC) and included Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The competition escalated, with his price reaching Rs 10.4 crore, and eventually KKR secured him at Rs 18 crore.
In an emotional Instagram post, Pathirana thanked CSK and specifically acknowledged MS Dhoni for his mentorship. He shared his aspiration to achieve 50 IPL wickets with CSK, a goal he was unable to fulfill.
Reflecting on his journey, he wrote, "From a boy with a dream to donning yellow with pride, CSK provided me with more than just cricket; it instilled belief, confidence, and a sense of family that I will always treasure. From 2022 to 2025, every moment in yellow has shaped my career and personal growth. I had hoped to conclude my final season with CSK on a high note, aiming for 50 wickets for this remarkable franchise. Unfortunately, that dream remains unfulfilled, but my efforts were always genuine."
He expressed deep gratitude towards Dhoni, the management, his teammates, and the loyal CSK fans for their unwavering support. "Chennai will always feel like home, and yellow will forever hold a special place in my heart. With respect and pride, I now embark on a new journey with KKR. Thank you, CSK. Thank you, Chennai. I will always be grateful," he concluded.
