Marizanne Kapp Anticipates Strong Performance from Delhi Capitals in WPL
Kapp's Optimism for Delhi Capitals
Marizanne Kapp, the South African all-rounder, is expressing her hopes for an improved performance from the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL). The team is scheduled to face the Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants in consecutive matches starting January 10.
Returning to the DY Patil Stadium, where South Africa played in their inaugural ICC Women’s World Cup final, Kapp reflects on the emotional significance of the venue. Despite finishing as runners-up to India, she acknowledges that the past cannot be altered. "It will be a sentimental experience, but we cannot change the outcome," the 36-year-old stated. Kapp praised India's World Cup victory and emphasized the transformative impact of the WPL on women's cricket in India. "Leagues like this are crucial, especially after the Indian team's World Cup win. The WPL's quality will undoubtedly rise as a result, showcasing its influence on women's cricket overall," she remarked.
Discussing the leadership transition within the Delhi Capitals, Kapp expressed confidence in new captain Jemimah Rodrigues, believing she can lead the team to their first WPL title after three consecutive final losses. "She can manage pressure well. It’s a significant task to uphold the legacy established by Meg Lanning in the previous seasons. I’m looking forward to playing under her leadership, especially given her cheerful demeanor," Kapp noted.
On a personal note, Kapp shared insights about her development as a player, stating, "My growth would not have been possible without these leagues. The emergence of young talent is largely due to initiatives like the WPL. Over the years, I have evolved, focusing more on fitness and enhancing my contributions to the team. With every match, players learn how to adapt, contribute, and discover winning strategies for the team," added the experienced athlete, who has participated in 24 WPL matches, accumulating 362 runs and taking 28 wickets.
